This qualification will develop the knowledge and skills required when working with food in health and social care and early years and childcare settings. It covers food safety requirements, contributing to and/or promoting nutrition and hydration, and supporting individuals to eat and drink.
This qualification will support learners towards an understanding of food safety in preparation for food hygiene qualifications. This qualification does not replace Food Hygiene Certificates.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but learners should be at least 16 years of age.
Yes, you will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
It will be assessed by your Tutor or Assessor. This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task.
Learners must achieve 4 credits from the mandatory units and at least a further 4 credits from the optional units

This qualification allows learners to progress to job roles in health and social care or early years and childcare which involve the promotion of food safety, hydration, and nutrition.
Learners can also take this qualification as an additional employer requirement for the Children and Young People’s Workforce and Playwork Apprenticeship Frameworks.
It is suitable for anyone who may be preparing for a new role or is working in a role that involves handling food safely and supporting an individual with their nutrition and hydration needs.
